Sacred Service
My life as a monk is all about serving others. This has been mainly service to people who approach me, people already involved in the meditation, yoga, ayurveda, organic, vegetarian worlds – alternative worlds. As many say, serving is the best feeling in the world. Last week i crossed a line out of the alt/holistic/spiritual spheres and offered my services in the mainstream.
Since moving up to the farm, whenever I go to the bank, I see on the lobby bulletin board a flyer inviting people to contact Habitat 4 Humanity if you need a house. I am always drawn to houses, green houses, this old house, etc. and something was tugging at my heartstrings to volunteer for Habitat.
Last week I finally went over to meet the local Habitat folks in Oneonta. I felt my JOY! Initiative coaching can help these soon-to-be home owners with stress-management/developing peace, visions, goals, and above all, become a success at home owning and on to achieving their larger dreams and visions.
Long story short, they liked the idea; tonight I gave some tips and last Sat I also worked at the house building a porch, and I am so high from helping and sharing my gifts – but particularly, the high is integrating holistic/spiritual with mainstream! The time has come – the bridge is built.
Folks if you work in the ayurvedic/holistic/etc field and have not yet approached the mainstream to volunteer your services, now is the time! It is the greatest rush…it always is when you integrate two previously unrelated worlds..the energy rush is exponential…the joy is amplified into deliriumsphere. Yes there are various degrees of delirium, from subdued delirium to rejoicing delirium.
Hope to hear more and more folks reaching out to a sphere they are not familiar with and offer to share your gifts with them. Please leave comments about your experiences building bridges and serving in new realms.

I couldn’t agree with you more! You said it perfectly with Sacred Service by trying to find creative ways, new ways to introduce Ayuveda, meditation, finding peace into our “busy world.” It is our calling, our vocation to find how to share what we know and love with those in our community.
I am too on a “high” after I teach a workshop or share the benefits of meditation after talking to parents about parenting. I tie in the peace you feel inside translates to peace to the children and thus, a more loving environment. All we have to do is find a way for the “mainstream” to understand and how it does apply to their every day life.
Thank you so much for sharing this insight and I will also now use the term, “Sacred Service” because that is truly what it is.
