What does $10 buy you these days?
2 starbucks coffees? (really I’m asking guessing)
1/2 – 3/4 of a meal in a restaurant?
Even before the economic correction, it seems by our standards $10 doesn’t but a lot. What if I told you $10 saves the life of a child for 1 year!
It is true, I found out about a company that invented a ‘water straw’ that allows villagers who have no potable drinking water, no well, and only disease-laden ponds, by using this straw, filter out the dangers from the water and drink pure, healthy water.
Each straw lasts for a year, and in that time, other donations go to build wells so the villages become self-sufficient. The Water Is Life folks, just sent me 5 samples to bring to India and Ecuador to see if they will help in the areas I visit.
Several years ago in our newsletter, then editor, Ray Noronha reported this story when the straw came out. Last week there was a tweet-a-ton – a telethon hookup through Twitter to raise money for 20,000 straws for the children in Kenya. Finally I found a way to reconnect and made a donation.

Please tell your friends about this wonderful charity as well!
We also have our own philanthropic causes, but are grateful to be able to share this wonderful idea that is helping more of the 1.1 billion people who do not have access to clean drinking water survive.

Swamiji,
I told my son’s preschool all about it and she’s going to put tell the parents of the school about it too! I will do my best to share the news/information with my own friends and family! I think it’s an amazing technology to be able to enable children to drink “clean water” from “dirty water.” What a wonderful blessing!
Thank you for sharing!
Blessings,
Suzette
